Treatment for a herniated disc varies depending on region. Injections (steroid) are typically the first course of action. Therapy is sometimes helpful in strengthening the surrounding muscles and maintaining proper alignment and mechanics. Unfortunately I am running out of therapy sessions for this year (only 15 left). With knee surgery in 3 weeks (followed by an extensive rehab protocol) and my left hip issues (which still require a lot of therapy and strengthening) having only 15 sessions left for the year is a bit troubling. I guess we will cross that bridge when we come to it. However, it's coming up soon.
Herniated Disc?
I had an MRI today to check for a herniated disc in my thoracic/cervical spine region. I have been seeing a cardiologist for several months for chest pain. After many tests and several echos my cardiologist is confident that my chest pain is not related to my heart. However, due to EDS I will need to have an echo performed at least every other year to check for changes. As for the chest pain, he feels I have nerve entrapment in my back (from an alignment issue) that is causing my pain, tingling sensation in my arm and fingers, and back/shoulder pain. I spoke with Dr. Shiple who agrees with his theory and prescribed an MRI to check for a herniation. I should have results by next week (maybe earlier) and will post an update.
