Today was my 3rd hip scope to repair a labral tear (and my 12th hip surgery overall). The surgery went well. My surgeon repaired the torn cartilage (which was torn and detached). He mentioned that my capsule is quite thin at this point, likely a result of EDS and the constant stretching. If that becomes a problem down the road, a cadaver capsule may be necessary, but we are not there yet (and may never reach that point). I woke up in a post-op hip brace, largely due to the thinning of the capsule, but also due to the tear.
As always I was admitted overnight. Most of the time I spend 2-3 days in hospital but today I woke up in PACU, and after a short bout of severe pain and the chills, I started feeling significantly better. I took Tylenol immediately post-op and have not needed any other form of pain control. Post-op nausea has also been well controlled and I even craved a Boloco burrito and my usual Dunkin latte. Hopefully I am cleared for discharge tomorrow so I can get home to my family!
I will likely be on crutches for a minimum 4 weeks, though probably closer to 6 weeks (and given I will need my right tibia rotated in a tibial derotational osteotomy, I will be on crutches for a lot longer). Due to my laxity, I will not begin PT immediately (usually starts 1 week post-op). Instead my surgeon wants my hip to tighten up a bit. I also will remain in post-op brace for several weeks.
I am looking forward to recovering at home with my family and graduating from nursing school in August!
Hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful weather!
