One step closer!

FINALLY! I heard back from my shoulder surgeon today who received my operative note (after 2 requests, 4 personal phone calls, and 6 weeks of waiting). Shoulder surgery will be an open procedure. He will confer with my hip surgeon and I should be able to schedule my surgeries very soon.

After my unfortunate day on Monday, I e-mailed my knee surgeon. He was concerned about the "pop" in my knee and is not sure what to do about the tears just yet. As for the CRPS he said that we need to get on that QUICKLY as it is progressive and the further into it the more severe it becomes and the harder it will be to manage the pain and recover from future surgeries. I managed to find the TOP specialist and he is located in Philly. However, his waiting list extends into the middle of 2013. I am not sure why he has such a long waiting list for a chronic, progressive pain disorder but regardless this was not an option. My surgeon is contacting 2 specialists out of Children's (Boston) for me and hopefully I can get in to see one of them before my surgeries.

Dr. Shiple prescribed me the Fentanyl patch back in December to manage some of my pain. I was scared to take it at first but after the "pop" on Monday I knew that I wouldn't be able to tolerate therapy without pain relief. Once again the Fentanyl patch (slow release Morphine) was a MAJOR failure. I woke up and was sick, I have had a migraine all day, and I slept for 5 hours today! I've come to the conclusion that pain medications don't work for me. Now I have to wait another day or so for the effects to wear off.

Hopefully tomorrow is the day for scheduling my surgeries. I am pretty sure a February date is out of the question. I was really pushing for a February surgery so that I could assure I would be walking and out of the hospital for my 21st birthday. Now I will be lucky if I am out of the hospital for my birthday. Oh well, I guess I can celebrate at a later date...although I was really looking forward to going out ON my birthday and feeling "normal." Better late than never!
